Campaign Story

We are part of a new wave of Vermont farmers, grape growers and wine makers who believe that wine is food and soil comes first. There’s a small number of Vermont vineyards farming organically and biodynamically, earning a world-wide reputation for serious, sustainable farming techniques in cold climates and we are one of them!

Our small piece of Vermont is in a Barnard valley that feels like the mountainous regions and high country in France, Switzerland, and Italy. Our immediate neighbors all farm and garden organically “vegetables, herbs, mushrooms, beef, dairy (the best ice cream on the planet from Kiss the Cow Farm), chickens, ducks, turkeys, and apples.

Hmmm, we thought, what could we add to this beautiful picture?

We’ve watched the wine world change as more people reach beyond conventional, ordinary wines for natural, healthy, raw wines. Natural wine and cider makers in Vermont are creating a new wine region. La Collina Vineyards has five-plus acres of grapes in the ground, and we’re growing six cold-hardy, alpine varieties. Some we will sell to our neighbors and fellow natural winemakers. The rest, we’re making into our own wine. We completed our first harvest (1,500 lbs of grapes!) and stomped and pressed the grapes in a repurposed garage. Your contribution will help us to build a second story for equipment and wine storage, and a tasting area and stomp pad on the ground floor.
